Lemongrass is fragrant, fast-growing tropical grass. It’s natural essential oils give off a subtle lemony aroma and citrusy flavors. Lemongrass is most popular as an ingredient in Asian cuisine. We often use it to make an herbal tea that’s perfectly refreshing iced in the summer months or soothing as a hot tea in the winter. Medicinally, Lemongrass is especially popular in Ayurvedic medicine. It can be used as a mild astringent, antioxidant, and to aid in digestion. Lemongrass contains a component called citral that helps to digest food.
It is rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Potassium. Potassium increases the production of urine in our body, which in turn stimulates blood circulation and lowers blood pressure.
Lemongrass is prized across the globe in these regions for it’s culinary use as a cooking spice and as a medicinal herb. This perennial plant is easy to grow outdoors and in a container! It can be harvested year-round.
