Scullcap is an important traditional Chinese medicinal herb from the mint family of plants, commonly referred to as Huang Qin, Baikal Skullcap, or Chinese Skullcap. It is native to China, Mongolia, and Russia.
Extracts of the plant, specifically the root, were found to contain certain flavonoid components that have anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Purported uses include treatment of epilepsy, hepatitis, infections, inflammation, cancer, atherosclerosis, and insomnia. (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center)
