The Sabal Palm, also known as Cabbage Palm, is a unique palm tree with many edible parts. It is most well-known the interior of the trunk which is used to prepare heart of palm or swamp cabbage.Â
It is native to the eastern United States (occurring naturally as far north as North Carolina) and the Bahamas. Sabal Palm is an important subtropical landscape plant along America’s coastlines and is the state tree of both Florida and South Carolina.Â
Growing Sabal Palm is easy. Although it needs heat and humidity to grow well, it is very cold hardy and known to survive in temperatures below 10 degrees.
